Monday 8 February 2010: Essence of Labrador (Lasagne just out of shot)

On our lunchtime walk along the Water of Leith today we came across a pair of dogs (and their humans) haveing a rare time in the water. They were begging to be blipped, and even more so begging for the SLR, shutter priority, long lense and continuous burst shooting. But since the compact wa all that was on offer, you'll have to put up with shoddy phot for the 'essence of Labrador' that this conveys.

The two dogs were about a year old, maybe younger, a Collie and this balck lab. We rounded the bend thinking someone was being tortured, the stangled yelps an wails made me start thinking first aid drowning protocols...but it transpired they were whoops of joy as the lab (Dylan) forged through the icy water to retreive his tennis ball. His fellow canine was too chicken to dive in, having gotten wet and cold....he paced the shore, looked concernedly on, and barked occasionally.

In this shot the Collie has a look of resignation as the Lab leaps again....looks like a sealion, and sounded like one too.

What was cute was the Collie helping the lab out of the water and fussing around him when he emerged. I swear half the water on the Collie came from the Lab.

Night all!

  27. Great action shot!!
The collie on the waterline sounds about right to me.....I had one that didn't really approve of that nasty cold swimming lark but was a dab hand paw at herding seaweed......more of a landlubber than a dastardly sea-dog if you know what I mean!

    Update on Audit
The audit questionaire was aimed at the residential section of the service, so wasn't really applicable to me as I'm in the Job Centre area.
ComCare are attempting to introduce the Mead/Copeland WRAP programme already used by Bipolar Support I have been doing the layout for the BiPolarSupport quarterly newsletter since 2004.
I was a consumer advisor for ComCare for a few years, but now I only get called in when there is an audit, so I no longer have regular input into the running of the service ;-(

  31. Excellent!

Undoubtedly full of Essence of Lab - but I wish someone would tell our dog, who resolutely avoids water if she can! She should be thrown out of the Lab Club.
