I live in Nottingham, England.
I was born in Ireland, and have lived in Belfast, Airdrie, Dundee, Kent, Essex, Worcestershire, Manchester, Sheffield, Worksop, Derbyshire, Sydney and Woolgoolga Australia - in so many different places I sometimes forget the details!
Most of my working life after graduating from Sheffield University was in the NHS. I trained, post retirement, as a family and relationship counsellor and have practised as such in Australia and in the UK. I was a part-time radio DJ in Australia, and also had a weekly sports programme on 2CHY.
I am a director and trustee of Healthwatch Nottinghamshire.
I have a beautiful, loving wife.
My sons James and Michael, live in Japan and Australia respectively with their wives (Yukari and Liz) and families. I have six delightful grandchildren, a little sad that my family is so scattered.
I love the outdoors, and also still referee under 18's football.
My eyesight is deteriorating (as befits a referee!) with 'wet' macular degeneration in my right (dominant) eye (now stabilised by injections into the eye); plus dry macular degeneration in the left.
I find it harder and harder to identify birds in the field nowadays, when once I was so expert.
Coming to terms with this ageing process is a challenge to the spirit.
