These days, wheel & pedals have much less effect on a car's behaviour than they used to. This is the gear selector and the iDrive control centre for the BMW M5. Surrounding the gear selector are buttons for engine power, gearshift speed, steering weight and suspension stiffness, along with the not-to-be-used "traction control:off" button.

It looks complex, but it's fairly intuitive and taken together they have a dramatic impact on the car's behaviour.
