Monday 30 August 2010: Meet Maggie
Turns out Maggie, my new dog, has some serious separation anxiety issues. I left her with my brother and his girlfriend to go to class at about 8am and she was howling all morning. When I came home for lunch to get a couple books she calmed down, but after I left again she got even more anxious and was pacing, drooling, barking, howling, etc. (At least she's not chewing or defecating). My brother works from home, and it's his home, so I was frantic to calm her down but there's not a lot to be done.
She got out of the house by breaking open the door as one of my classes was starting so I ran home and spent an hour looking for her. I only got her yesterday so I didn't expect her to know her way home.
She did come back, and I took her with me to school in the back of my car to give my brother some space. It was cooling down enough to leave the windows cracked. She seemed fine when I came back out of the library, but it's gonna be a long process to get her trained to feel safe when no one is around.

Comments
That is tough, she is probably very confused right now.
I love her ears!
As silly as it sounds, Doggy daycare might help her get adjusted to not having you around all the time. That could be something to look into if she just isn't adjusting. You could probably pay by the hour and give her some time away from you but with tons of distractions. Or tomorrow you might wake up and she'll be fine.
Good luck!
