This morning Coco appeared in the kitchen hopping on 3 legs and refused to put any weight on her 4th. On the phone to the vet, vet unavailable until 5 but we already had an appointment in the morning with the nurse so she would have a wee look at her. Alarmed when we got to the surgery and we were hardly in the door when the nurse declared she didn't like the look of it and would get the vet. The vet shook his head and asked if we had insurance, now I was very alarmed! Looked like her cruciate ligament, they would keep her in for an x-ray. The good news is that it was the ligament in her knee but it wasn't torn or ruptured - just soft tissue damage and would get better with rest and anti-inflammatories. The bad news is that her bones are slightly out of line, putting strain on the ligaments so this could happen again, apparently common in beagles, poor wee beagle-bum!
This pic was taken in the hour after she came home, before she finally gave in and fell asleep. She was like a little, drunk, old man - just about asleep on her feet and swaying in an alarming manner.
