About Instography
Hello. Call me Steven or Insto or 'that grumpy argumentative git'. With almost 500 journal entries under my belt I thought I best update this.
What am I doing here? Well, mainly, posting on Blipfoto is a way of forcing myself to practice photography every day. Some days it will be the kids but mainly I look for scenes around where I live or work or I take photos of people I meet along the way.
Most of my photos are black and white but if colour adds anything I'll sometimes post a colour photo. It's just how I learned - 20 years of black and white film is hard to shake off.
I'm interested in improving my photography. I've reached the limits of technical improvement - buying more or better equipment won't help - but you can help by commenting on what you like or don't like. Especially what you don't like.
Paul Arden, in his book Whatever you think, think the opposite writes in a piece called Ask for a Slap in the Face: "If you show somebody a piece of your work and you ask 'What do you think?', they will probably say it's okay because they don't want to offend you. Next time, instead of asking if it's right, ask them what's wrong.
They may not say what you want to hear, but the chances are they will give you a truthful criticism.
Truth hurts, but in the long run it's better than a pat on the back".
So, go on, slap my face. You'll want to do it some day. Everyone does.
In the meantime, head over to my Etsy shop where you can buy prints. If there's something here that's not over there, let me know and I'll set up a listing in the shop for you.
