Get Well Soon?

I thought my 400th would be something a bit less mundane, perhaps something clever with a 4 and two 0's.... but this one has a story to tell.

If you've seen yesterday's entry you will see that I was going into hospital for a spot of scary spinal surgery.

Well, part of that happened.... I went into hospital but the surgery was cancelled. It was a very difficult day:

Fasting from Tuesday night.
4:30am start to get the hospital on time.
Checks done.
Bloods taken.
Risks heard.
(Crying done)
Consent forms signed.
9 hour wait.
Meeting with surgeon.
Sent home.

I was second on the list for the operating theatre but the poor person before me suffered complications whilst open on the table and took all day. I really feel for them and feel guilty for being selfish for wanting my surgery done as planned. But, after all that preparation, psyching myself (and my family) up and getting a supply teacher employed to cover my classes for the next few months...

I guess better this than a tired surgeon operating on your spine?!

So, I have spoken to the admissions co-ordinator at the hospital this morning and am still waiting for a registrar to phone me back today. To complicate matters, the surgeon is going away on holiday for three weeks. I think I will ring them again before they go home for the day.

So frustrating. So bl**dy frustrating.
