When the system is broken and everyone knows it's broken, you cannae blame the system.

They'd had enough

Is there anything more unappealing than a militant parent with a cause? Better get the kids to take it up then.

The following day in full school assembly:

"Collier. McLaughlin. Stand before the school. Are you two responsible for climbing the school gates at the weekend and clearing 21 bags of rubbish?"

Trembling, red-faced-ninja-guerillas: "Yes, Miss"

"Well done."

And the new playground rules on littering were enforced with extra notices and pledges. That lunchtime it spread and other kids were spotted picking up rubbish.

Now, we'll keep the 50p per bag payment between ourselves coz there's legislation about that sorta thing.
