Wednesday 17 March 2010: Ceci n'est pas une pipe

... no, it's not a pipe, it's a photograph of a pipe in a pipe shop in Slough.

I'm here to photograph two guys at O2 and rather foolishly came early to have a look around the town. Spectacularly downmarket was my conclusion (sorry to any blippers who live there). So rather than photograph the bleak reality of it, I decided instead on the surreality with a nod to Rene Magritte and a quick gag.

3. Tried a variant on that line for a client a few years back - "Ceci n'est pas un whisky" boasted the Magritte-a-like canvas, showing their product. Client didn't get it. D'oh. Had to go with a Warhol-a-like instead.
   
   Always felt it was one of those "close but no cigar" ideas.
