This week in Blipfoto - How to be (even more) social
17th February 2012
We are a social bunch at Blipfoto...
Sharing our days, admiring others'...
Every day, tens of thousands of comments and pictures are shared on Blipfoto. Some people might have their favourites. Others might still be trying to find theirs.
So at Blip Central, we want to make it easier for you to be social, to find great new photographs and interesting stories from all around the world. Or from your own front door.
To help do this we have introduced just a few small changes to the way that Blipfoto interacts with other "sharing" platforms.
Two changes, to be more precise. At present, those who use Blipfoto's Twitter and Facebook Apps share their daily Blip posts.
But from today we have added new functionality to these apps to also share new "Subscriptions" and "Favourites".
This will allow you, and many others, to more easily find the pictures that you think are great and the tales that captivate you.
Of course, for those that already use the app, who don't want to add this function, you don't have to share any more than you already do - it's easy to switch off.
But, if you don't already share your Blips on Facebook or Twitter and you want to, it is very easy to sign up.
TEDx
On the subject of sharing, Blipfoto founder Joe Tree is set to talk at the up-coming TEDx Glasgow event.
The subject of his presentation is Creating a Collective Human History.
Human history is defined largely by the information our ancestors were able to create and store. But our record of the past is skewed by the powerful or privileged few who were capable of documenting the world around them.
Joe will argue that we are the first generation to record and share the smallest details of everday life on a massive scale, and the first with an opportunity to create a truly collective human history. But to secure our place in tomorrow's past, we need to think much more carefully about what we're doing today.
Staff Picks
Beautifully freezing... Untouched snow and frost-covered, silver birch trees. An unspoiled winter scene from Finland.
Relief to the long, hot summer days in Perth (Australia) comes in the form of "the Fremantle Doctor" - a sea breeze that offers some respite from the heat of the day. This relief, which comes in off the ocean in the afternoon, catches the canvas of a kite surfer, while others around it use it to their advantage.
It was the apparent speed of this Indian Tuk Tuk that caught our eye. A blink of light rushing from the darkness, taking its passengers home.
The cork scramble. Ridiculous fun at Sports day - masses of colour, shouting, chanting, cheering, laughing, fun and friendship, all captured in this snapshot.
The sun dipping on Pao de Acucar - or Sugar Loaf Mountain, as we know it - while the cable cars trundle past. An iconic, yet still beautiful scene.
And, we couldn't resist this amazingly candid snap of teenage heart-throb sensation in the Big Apple. That's right a Blipper literally bumped into Justin Bieber. To the envy of teenage girls everywhere.
