This Week in Blipfoto - Flying high
11th May 2012
Another day, another photo...
This week there's been absolutely loads going on behind the scenes at Blipfoto - and in front of the cameras too...
In fact our Blip Boffins have come out from under their shell to expose themselves (and share a few of their wee bits n bobs - the stuff that they are getting up to make the Blipfoto experience that little bit sweeter still). There will be plenty more added in due course, we can assure you.
Also, in case you hadn't spotted it, we have a major competition running (pun intended) in conjunction with UK Athletics. It's your chance to win a money-can't-buy photography prize - a trackside photographers accreditation to the Aviva 2012 Trials in June. Here Britain's top athletes will be competing for final Olympic selection. And it's easy to enter (the competition, that is, not the Olympics), all you need to do is capture a sense of movement, an action shot, or the sheer determination to succeed in your photograph. Take a look at some of the entries so far for inspiration. It's your Shot At Glory.
The BlipBlog's been busy too with interesting photography snippets, including a new exhibition by iconic street photographer Bruce Gilden, a beautiful stop-motion film, Celestial Lights, and more on ADay - a global documentary project that's aiming to create a crowdsourced snapshot of the world (if you want to take part, get yourself signed up here - there's only 4 days until the big event on 15th May).
Lastly - but definitely not least - your tributes to Molly. Molly was an avid Blipper who passed away suddenly last year. She left a lasting impression though, and many Blippers posted a tribute to "Tuscany" celebrating the anniversary of her last Blip on 7 May. We've created a Collection of Blips left by you in her memory. Quite fitting, we thought.
Staff Picks
David Bond (now 96) won the gold medal for sailing in the 1948 London games. This portrait also shows him pictured receiving his medal, if you look closely enough...
A perfect capture from the recent UK X Fest. The composition of the scooter, the colours of his 'hair'. Seems like he must have been hanging there for hours.
Superhero mask, superhero cape, superhero gloves, rain boots, pants and a discussion as to what is an appropriate outfit for school. This made us smile.
The joy of youth - found in an 89 year old artist. From the fun and mischief in her face we wonder what exactly it is she's painting.
Beautiful star trails reflected in a calm lake. Just add a sunset for the perfect mix.
