Photoville NYC - a photographic village of shipping containers

This summer a unique photography village is being planned for New York city.

Working in partnership with local galleries, national institutions, and an international network of curatorial partners, an emerging photography collective, United Photo Industries, is building Photoville NYC - a large-scale, photographic village of Shipping Containers in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

First ever compact camera becomes most expensive as Leica sold for 2.16m Euros

A new world record was set this weekend as a prototype Leica, created in 1923, became the most expensive camera ever.

The Leica 0-series, the first commercially successful compact camera to use 35mm film, has been sold at auction for 2.16m Euros.

A world without borders

A couple of weeks ago we introduced a small change to the way Blipfoto deals with borders added to photos, which have increased massively as apps like Hipstamatic and Instagram have become popular. Instead of devoting valuable moderation time to dealing with borders on people's journals, we decided to focus instead on removing borders from thumbnails.

The system we put in place has worked incredibly well. The browse and search pages haven't been upset by images with borders gaining undue prominence and, even though all full sized images with borders have been left in place, the number of entries reported to the moderators has dropped to almost zero. That tells us that, providing they don't find their way into the shared areas of the site, borders aren't a big deal.

So we're making this change permanent and have adjusted the rules accordingly - 'don't add borders to your images' has changed to 'don't leave borders on your thumbnails'.

Legendary street photographer Bruce Gilden brings his Beautiful Catastrophe to the UK

Legendary New York photographer Bruce Gilden is set to unveil an exhibition of his street photography at The Lighthouse Gallery in Wolverhampton (UK) later this month.

The esteemed Magnum Photos photographer will also be running a three-day workshop in conjunction with his exhibition, A Beautiful Catastrophe.
