Monday 26 July 2010: candied brooms

There is something about this place that lends itself to yellowed tones. It suits the walls, the street, and the moments of emptiness which don't last long before crowds of people rush past your lens.

And in between the yellows are always the bursts of colour. A bright purple headscarf, a turquoise gallabeya, and this little boy carrying a bunch of pink, purple and green brooms...

  2. I like that very much, so many shades of yellow, gold, brown, and then the vibrant splash of colour. A great shot.

  3. It makes me laugh to look at this - whimsical in its own way and very charming. So glad you caught this fine bunch of colorful brooms amidst all the earth tones.

  4. The brooms stand out so well against the background.
What also strikes me is that the street looks so clean!

  6. Ya habibti, it always amazes me that we are shoulder to shoulder walking the streets on a shoot, and yet you're seeing so much I miss, and it's that unique artist in you, the poet that see's things the pure shooter doesnt...this is absolutely one of my fav's of yours, an image that walked past us both but you captured so exquisitely!!!xxxxxxx

    ~ Scorpionkiss

  8. At first sight, it does seem as if he is carrying candy. We have cotton candy here which is being sold like this by sellers on foot or on their bicycle. I love this picture and everything in it, from the brooms, to the shadows :) awesome!!

  16. as if he is holding a bundle of balloons. but they are not of course. this is not a boy playing, but a boy at work. the two - work and play, is what hits me straight off when seeing this. such a young boy, with such a heavy load. but still with dignity. with a sense of purpose.

and the colours, of course. you are a master at bringing out the specific colours of heat and street and brick and old culture. with the brooms in modern plastic colours. such great contrast.

    - grete
