Wednesday 28 July 2010: Diptych II
The office is practically deserted these days, while everyone is off on their summer holidays. I think there's about 5 people on this floor, including me, out of a usual 17. And I love it.
I decided to try something different today. It gets hard sometimes, when you get used to taking certain types of photos, or when there are certain expectations, either from others or from yourself. But it took me 101 photos to realise that all that doesn't matter.
I want to be consistent. I don't want to have gaps in my calendar anymore.
I want to look at the things around me everyday and see something new.
Today - I walked out onto my balcony at work and looked at the buildings around me. I walked around the office and looked at the windows, the chairs, the books on shelves.
I found little things that echo - the curve of a window across the street, and the curve of the windows here, peeking out from behind venetian blinds. Shades of non-colour going from cream to grey - often darker than intended because of the dust.
And I finally settled on this.

Well done, I think what we most often see in most often overlooked. I love diptychs, which I have not posted many as of late... are you my inspiration?... lynn

I love tghis in monotone habibti, and all the vertical lines are so seductive, and particulary the little window with the plants adds such humanity to the all the cool lines...xxxxxx

I love this...there is so much to see in our everyday that often goes overlooked. I love the clean lines, the similarities in shape and the flowers in the window. Nicely done in b&w!!

inside out :-)
you're right, we do tend to stick within our comfort zones. blip gives us the opportunity (sometimes with no choice!) to photograph subjects that we maybe wouldn't initially be drawn to. well done on another great eponymous blip.

I love this shot in greyscale, the inside and outside of a building. I like your different and creative ideas :)

so full of life, even without the presence of people.
different motif - but not new, for your sensitivity is beaming through.
colour or not colour. street scene or just the details of your surroundings. there is such poetry in whatever you do.
and the diptych has musical overtones. the repetition of a theme. not the same, just the echoes.
the gray scale makes this almost other-worldly. as if this is some kind of holy place. which in a way it is, since this is where you spend most of your days. though not the traditional holy perhaps :-)

I like this shot. And I know what you mean about expectations. Really important to follow what draws me in, not what I think might please others. And I do struggle with it. Today there were much more beautiful manes, but I chose what moved me, and what rewarded me for looking closely...

I like the indoor-outdoor contrast here.
As for only "certain types of photos", I think my journal is the epitome of inconsistency on a particular level. I tell myself, each day is a different day!
