Dandyhead [First G9 blip]

The courier finally delivered my package containing my new Canon PowerShot G9 at 10.50 am. I'd been up since 5.30 working, so that I'd have some more work done and be able to play with the new toy with a clear conscience. Once the battery was charged I began to run through the menus and get a hang for the controls (it's all a bit like upgrading to a new version of Mac OS X -- lots that's familiar, some new stuff, and old stuff that's been reorganised). I flipped quickly through the user guide (electronically, of course, all that's included in printed form is a Getting Started Guide) and shot a few test pics around the house before taking my new baby out into the big outdoors.

It was a pretty awful, grey, dull and miserable afternoon, but I ventured as far as St Anne's Park all the same, settling for the seafront corner with the pond and the Brobdingnagian rock garden. Mr Blip mentioned the excellent macro function in his review, and my mate who had a G7 said the same, so I did a lot of crouching down and prodding at flowers and weeds and leaves, and I guess it was inevitable that my first blip with the G9 would turn out to be a macro shot.

Some others which turned out okay during my familiarisation sessions were this knitwear cuff, a fallen leaf, this example of graffiti with a message, some leaves against the sky, and these two evening landscapes.

It's time to do some more work now, so further fun and games with the new camera will have to wait.
