Thursday 2 July 2009: End of Act 3

Each hospital I've been in during the last 35 days has had a different material and pattern for the privacy curtains around the beds. This is what they use in the Incorporated Orthopaedic Hospital of Ireland, which I wasn't at all sorry to say goodbye to it at 10.00 am today.

I'd managed to persuade the in-house doctor to prescribe a stronger sleeping tablet than the norm for last night, and was glad that had, since I slept right through what I now realise was a deluge and violent thunderstorm of sizable proportions (spookily, the Mater Hospital which I'd moved on from on Tuesday was itself a victim of the weather, with the roof (ceiling?) of one of the wards actually caving in and storm damage being done to the A&E department). So I was feeling quite settled and refreshed as I waved goodbye to this dreadful place (well, utterly dreadful in terms of being in no way appropriate as a convalescent facility). My wonderful next-door neighbour picked me up, stopped off so I could spend a fortune on all the tablets I'll now be stuck taking for the rest of my life, and held my hand as I opened my own front door for the first time since May and stepped inside my very own house once again.

I grabbed a couple of naps, my wonderful neighbour fed me, and Carl came over in the evening. I very, very stupidly went up and down the stairs far too many times and suffered badly as a consequence, including a really scary light-headed moment in the bathroom. Fortunately Carl was on hand to reassure me and to convince me to take things easier. We sat and watched The Big Sleep on DVD, though neither of us (and we really are quite intelligent people) managed to follow the ridiculously convoluted plot. That took until 11.15 pm or so, at which stage Carl left and I faced into my first night alone and outside the hospital system in a very long time.

It's now Friday 3rd July, and I'm uploading a few blips together, including back-blips for Tuesday and Wednesday.
