Boston

Cold, cold, cold, especially at 6 15 am when I ventured out.

Wandered around downtown Boston seeing a few sights. Tomorrow I'll go through the Common and up to the Charles River.

This is Fanueil Hall reflected and Quincy Market.

I discovered from a friend something about the peculiar construction and design of the hotel building. From Avenue de Lafayette you go through an unprepossessing door, down a short flight of stairs and then up in the lift to the lobby on the third floor. The lobby is totally cut off from the outside world. It has no natural light. You have to use a different set of lifts to get to the rooms. Conversely, to get out of the building you need to take two lift rides.

Apparently this convoluted construction stemmed from the fact the the area of Downtown Crossng where the hotel is located was the red light district. It was to keep the undesirable characters completely at arms length. It's hobe a bit more upscale aa district in the meantime, but the wierd and slightly alienating construction remains.
