Monday 7 March 2011: Sweet centred lemon tree flowers

We have a wonderful old lemon tree in our garden - we planted it 40 years ago when we first moved in and it's had fruit on ever since.

It has survived droughts, floods and now earthquakes, it's had it roots disturbed by a new sewer going in and through it all it's flowered and fruited wonderfully well.

I mentioned to a friend I'd be very sad to see it killed by the latest earthquake and she said "and so would I!!" and I realized how many people we have shared the fruit with over the years.

It send s delicious scent all through the garden and has some flowers on most of the year.

One year a spray of flowers grew through the toilet window louvres and we ended up with lemons above the cistern.
