Monday 7 March 2011: Into the Secret Garden...
374/365: ... or that's what I always think when I go into the hidden bit of our garden because I'm incredibly soppy and think stuff like that. Anyway, I was out there today, digging over the soil ready to plant my potatoes, onions, carrots etc as well plant a couple of fruit trees (cherry, plum and also some raspberries, red currants and black currants). It's been a bit of a wilderness* for the last 18 months that we've lived here and since I'm on garden leave, I'm going to do the garden. And I LOVE gardening. Plus, it was nice to be outside as after yesterday's busy day, I was craving fresh air and space.
Oh, and in true Frances Hodgson Burnett style, a little Robin was watching over me while I worked, digging out nettles and the like. So I blipped it - though this isn't a great shot and part of that was due to the 'Poppy factor' where the cat stalked and pounced to her heart's content. Poor birds. I was also removing some of their habitat too - so as I dug, I said periodically 'sorry birds and insects'. Am glad I garden alone... I do sound like a loony sometimes.
We've also had our new carpet put down - over 7 weeks after buying it. Yay! Finally! Why is it so difficult to get hold of carpet fitters? There are certain professions I'm sure operate by stealth. Hiding whilst you're trying to find one, then gathering together to giggle about how clever they've been with their hiding... and all the while you tear your hair out wondering whether they even exist or are a figment of your imagination.
Also survived shopping with Felix (yay me!) and have got the pizza dough proving ready for me to cobble together a pizza dinner in about an hour's time.
After that? Collapsing. Got to go up to Sheffield tomorrow to meet some of the people I'll be working with. Hope I haven't 'over-gardened' today and seized up. That would make such a crappy first impression! 'Hello', *creak* 'I'm Sarah' *groan* *slump*...
PS It's been sunny today!
PPS I am stopping writing now as a) I'm boring myself and b) I should have stopped about 200 words ago :o))
* Understatement of the year. Last year, I decided to clear back some of the brambles and nettles... and found a shed. And two compost bins. :o)
