Water critters

Vacation 2009: The Maritimes. Day 9. Near Singing Sands Beach, Basin Head/Souris, Prince Edward Island. Everywhere you look the sand is red, the rocks are red, full if iron, apparently. Beautiful scenery and coast. Here we have some snails and, I think, wee barnacles on a rock. The beach here is called the singing sands and are white - unlike most of the beaches on PEI. They are called the singing sands because they squeak weirdly when you walk on them. Apparently, there are only a few such beaches in the world. The noise is believed to be attributed to the sand being more round than cubic.

Back-blipped 13 March 2011.
