Monday 14 March 2011: Clean Seas
For decades now the IMO (International Maritime Organization) has set strict legislation regarding Marine Pollution. Besides rules regulation oil- and airpollution also the disposal of garbage generated on board vessels is regulated.
In every port it is rather easy to land the domestic waste. In Rotterdam this is done by the so called 'garbage boat' (vuilnis bootje). Seen the 'Invotis V' alongside, picking up our domestic waste.
At this moment the company Bek & Verburg has three vessels in service each handling 30 to 50 ships daily.
This will keep our beaches clean.
