Monday 14 March 2011: Farm Hunter
Today was the first time I have been over to Green Mountain College and their farm in several months. It is still a bit too cold and icy for long walks over there. But I spent some time by the oxen and pigs. I was escorted by the two farm cats who are so cheery and happy. While photographing the pigs this black and white girl reached into the seemingly still compost pile and pulled out a rat. It was so striking to watch her almost dance like motions of honing in on her prey, pulling it from the muck, killing it and walking off to find a quite place to dine. She earns her keep on the farm.
