Dying Beauty

A day for mourning. A day to notice the ones who have faded away.
A funeral today for a talented supremely respected Doctor who came to our country to look after the physically ill, those with multiple challenges, and the psychologically and emotionally needy, often the poorest and most neglected in our modern society. A day to remember his roots, his life, and his impact on our city since he has arrived. I was proud of the members of our school community who turned up spontaneously to support the fatherless sons, and to show repect. It was totally devastating and our eyes wept and our hearts were torn.
At the same time on the other side of the city another talented young man's funeral was held. He did not have the time to father children and to live a life of a family man, but wrote the most beautiful poems and made a huge impact while he was here. I have never had to choose between several funerals at the same time before. I went to one, with one son, while my husband went to another.
Both of these men died in a building that killed so many others. I heard today of people who are attending 10 funerals of collegues. Unbelievable.
Such tragedy and so much talent is gone. A hard day for me today, but only one of many that are happening every day around our city.
