Saturday 19 March 2011: Ready to Learn

A colleague whose children are a little older than mine has generously passed on many of her children's toys and books and so on as they've grown past them. One of the recent ones was this set of early reading tiles and booklets. The aim is to match up the numbers of the tiles with the illustrations at the top page of the booklet, by placing them in the clear lid covering words or sentences on the bottom page of the book.

Well, Miss 5 adores it. We did most of book 1 yesterday evening and this morning, and this afternoon we absolutely ripped through book 2. While I knew she knew a lot of words (some that have surprised her teacher, because they haven't done them in school yet ^_^ ), she surprised me with just how many she knew; she made very few mistakes, and needed little help.

Just as well, because (like Winston Churchill, it would seem) she doesn't like being told or helped. :P
