Saturday 19 March 2011: Of Supermoons ..

Never has so much air time being given over to a load of pseudo scientific nonsense in the past 24hrs.

Tonight, the moon was 2% closer than normal. It has not been that close since 1993. Everyone has got very excited about the moon looking much bigger. It is .. it's 2% bigger than normal, you won't notice it as there is no relative object to look at, other than the horizon, and then this give rise to the very well documented Moon Illusion.

The coincidental occurrence of a full moon, a moon rise at the same time as sunset, and slightly closer pass than normal brings all the loonies (a word derived from the moon!) out of the closet.

For simple, straight facts and debunking of the theories of Supermoons I urge you all to read this blog. (Kryptonite For The Supermoon)

Having said all that, it is a Supermoon tonight, but then the next full moon will be just as super!
