Swimming Against The Tide

New Boiler!!!

Hurrah hurrah hurrah!

Here it is, the BRAND NEW boiler, which, I REALLY hope, will supply us with heating and hot water for years to come!

The heating engineer worked here yesterday from 8.30am until 7.30pm, solid, without even taking a lunch break, and, by late evening we were able to have our first baths for a whole week! WONDERFUL!

What was less wonderful, but which I didn't complain about, was that about half the house was covered with a thick layer of dust (drilling holes through stone walls makes A LOT of the stuff). After a quick trip to town to get some food and a new washing up bowl (the old one split) I spent the rest of the morning hoovering, wiping and mopping. Only one section of the utility room remains to be cleaned. I also repainted the wall underneath the boiler, where the old one had made such a mess (see a few days ago's blip), and started the long process of washing all the clothes, towels that have been taken all over the place for showers etc., and other such stuff!

The Wonderspouse and I also set to work on the terrace outside, sweeping up lots of mess and so on that had accumulated over the winter. We also tidied up the buddleia clippings that I made the other day. The garden looks semi-half-way-vaguely-presentableish - or at least as though the house hasn't been abandoned! Probably good enough to prevent letters from the agency telling us to sharpen up our act where gardening is concerned (yes, we've had them before)!

By evening I was utterly exhausted, and slept through all of Dr Who being a dishy gay writer chappie - fortunately we recorded it!

Then I had a bath - BLISS!
