Sgwarnog: In the Field

Land

If I have a photographer hero it is Fay Godwin. Land, Our Forbidden Land and The Edge of the Land have occupied my bookshelves for twenty years or so, and have been a great source of inspiration, not just for their images, but also for the way they depict the interpenetration of the urban and the wild.

I've been fortunate that the National Media Museum in Bradford has been staging a revival of her Land exhibition for the past few months. Throughout that time, this huge banner of Barbary Castle Clump, Spring has been displayed on the side of the museum in the city centre. If there was one positive side to being on strike yesterday, it's that I got another chance to pop in and spend time with her wonderful pictures. If you want to visit, you'll have to be quick though - the exhibit is only open until March 27.
