Rocinha
One of the most famous/notorious favelas still not pacified but, according to one of the garcons of our bolt hole, perfectly safe to visit, and he even offered to take me round one Sunday! Now, before DD has a heart attack, I am not going, at least until she comes back and we go together! It lies to the south of Copacabana and my trip out to the DIY stores takes me past Atlantic ocean islets on the way and gives me this view on the way back. With the work in the flat now moving into its closing phases, I was able to take in more of the 'scenery' today and felt a wild surge of excitement at being here and having this and the magnificent sugar loaf scenery on our doorstep.
