Sunday 10 February 2008: Sheep in pen

A big day on the farm today, so it seemed like a good time to start 'blipping'. We had the 'Scanner' here - a guy who does a sort of ultrasound scan on all the sheep to see how many lambs each one is due to have. The sheep are then marked with different colours/patterns to show how many lambs to expect, so there are no surprises when they give birth. The sheep will hopefully start lambing in late April - we need them to lamb a lot later than other places because we are a hill farm and the weather is very unpredictable til then, so it helps more lambs to survive. This photo shows the sheep post-scanning, waiting in a pen before being sorted and returned to the fields.
