Byways Cafe

Take yourself back to the 60's with a visit to Byways cafe. There are over 25 places in Bakewell serving tea, coffee and refreshments. Byways is probably the one that is the most authentic for a taste of days gone by.
Today they had a real fire blazing and I had a pot of leaf tea (£1.50) and a home made biscuit (60p). Very reasonable as the tea comes complete with pot of water and the biscuit is very large.
It is getting increasingly difficult to find leaf tea in a cafe as everyone seems quite happy to plonk a teabag in a cup and fill it with boiling water.
It's not the same, I love the process of using the tea strainer, topping up the pot and using the little holder (don't know what its called) to hold the tea strainer.
Byways also does a large range of things on toast, cheese, beans and even spaghetti!
Terrific place always busy.
