Saturday 26 March 2011: Amusing View Of The Castle
I hadn't noticed the statue on the roof on the corner of Castle Terrace until today and on closer inspection the whole building, 25-36 Castle Terrace / 11-17 Cornwall Street, seemed extravagantly decorated.
It transpires that the building, completed between 1866 and 1870, was built by a well-known architect Sir James Gowans who built Rockville (see the remains) and that the statue, facing the castle, is that of Queen Victoria.
Typical of a Gowans structure there are too many interesting details, like the two cherubs (lower down) and the domes (just out of view) for one blip so I shall have to go again.
