Neighbours

There was a terrible racket of cawing and cackling outside this morning. The crows have decided to make the best of the rather shoogly nest in the birch tree; we've seen the them refurbishing vigourously in the last few days, bringing lots of twigs in to reinforce it. And the magpies seem to be reoccupying their nest that the crows had been eyeing up, in another tree in the square only about 100 yds away.

But today I finally saw one of the crows fly over to the magpie's nest and help himself to one of their twigs; a magpie was sitting in the tree below but confined itself to swearing. It was the most entertaining thing that happened all day, come to think of it!
