Loupin Stane

The Loupin Stane (Leaping Stone) was situated at the north end of Victoria Street to the rear of the house known as the 'Auld Inn'. The house lay close to the canal which ran between Aberdeen and Inverurie.
It is believed that the people who lived in the house would have made beer as a sideline. Horsemen who spent too long in the 'Auld Inn' would have used the Loupin Stane to re-mount their horses.
The house was demolished to make way for the removal of the bad bend in the road,, however the stone was saved and moved to Glengowanon Victoria Street by the family Yule who lived in the 'Auld Inn' at that time.
The present owner of Glengowan asked the Community Council if the stone could be relocated at the community Garden. They were delighted to retain a part of the village history, and the stone remains there today.
