The Old Walnut Tree

This gnarly old walnut tree is in the garden of the little holiday cottage we are lucky to be staying at this week.

I absolutely love it. Its boughs and branches stretch out like old, arthritic limbs yet in a few weeks it will be full of life again. Families will be staying here all through the summer and I have no doubt countless children will be clambering all over it's boughs and squealing with laughter as they swing back and forth. Such simple pleasure in a complex world.

I would have a go on one of the swings myself if I didn't suspect it may well spell the end of the tree's majestic bough and a trip to A&E for me!

Oh, and it's also home to Crusty the squirrel. :o)
