Bankstains

More UK Uncut activity tonight. This time it was a guided tour of some of the more unscrupulous financial institutions that fill Canary Wharf.

The local borough of Tower Hamlets, already home to the highest proportion of child poverty in the UK, is going to be hit by £70m-worth of cuts over the next three years.

Meanwhile, just next door, many of the people (and let's not beat mince about it - it's people who speculate on markets, who exploit out tax loopholes, and who ultimately choose to screw other people over) in the offices in this photo are still doing fine. The last time UK Uncut came here, one banker said "You're scum, you'll never get anything from us."

The lad with the megaphone is a local school teacher called Liam. He led the tour with aplomb, bringing the crowd of about 60 to the front door of one bank after another (for some reason they weren't keen for us to enter...) and giving us a neat run through of that firm's latest skulduggery. On the itinerary were KPMG, Barclays, Bank of America and HSBC.

It was funny, vibrant, and best of all intelligent. I am hoping that, in light of the intimidating policing the central London actions have attracted, this might prove the blueprint for some new tactics.
