Friday 8 April 2011: Tree felling, Kilmartin

Whilst the rest of the country was basking in spring sunshine, it was a bit misty and drizzly in Argyll. Door knocking in Kilmartin at lunchtime we could hear the sound of tree felling not far off. The whole hillside to the south of the village has been cut in recent weeks and some work was still going on.

Despite the large amount of forestry in the area, it is comparatively rare to see forests being cleared because so many are distant from the main roads. As a former Environment Minister, with forestry in my portfolio, I could have watched this for ages, but instead had to get on the next doorstep. The blip will have to do as a reminder.
