Bald Eagle

Hare Today Gone Tomorrow

I rose early this morning from my sickbed. The plan was to re-trace the steps that NM had taken on her walk yesterday and see if we could catch a glimpse of the hares.

As we walked along a track a chap coming in the opposite direction wished us good morning and told us that there were some hares in the next field. How did he know we were looking for hares? Perhaps because we were bristling with cameras?

He was correct there were a couple of hares in the next field but a long way from where we were. We walked on to the next field and decided wait and see if any would emerge. All we saw was a rabbit. We retraced our steps to the first field when up popped
this fellow in front of us. Before we could get the cameras raised he had stuck his tongue out at us and raced across the field into the cover.

My guess is that the little fellow in this image is a wood warbler. Perhaps someone can confirm.

Edit: Thanks to Mikewithmg who has pointed out that it is a chiffchaff. If only I had turned over to the next page in my bird book! Though to be honest I can hardly spot the difference between the two other than the wood warbler looks a bit more yellowish.

A bald man goes into the tattoo parlour and asks for a number of small rabbits to be tattooed onto his pate. The tattoo artist is surprised by this strange request and asks him why he want rabbits. "Well" replies the bald man "from a distance they will look like hares."
