Saturday 9 April 2011: Going to Luing
This is Cuan on Seil Island, where the ferry leaves for the Island of Luing. I was there at lunchtime today visiting the first day of the Island Cafe, a new holiday time venture which makes use of the school kitchens to try and generate some new income for the island and use the building more effectively. The initiative arose out of the threat to the school last year from Argyll & Bute Council, a threat that was fortunately lifted quite quickly. Closing an island school like this would have been daft and disastrous.
This was a wonderful warm day - great campaigning weather for the islands and for Oban where we started and finished. You can see the view from the pier in the picture at a different time of year here - that was during my last trip to the island when the idea of the cafe was first being discussed.
