Plane Wreckage on Scottish Mountain.

Walked five Munro mountain tops in one day today. Hard going but great to do so many at once, good weather for once too.

Up on Carn an t-Sagairt Mor you can find several big pieces of a plane crash from 1956. This is the back of a jet engine, sitting calmly against a rock since the day it came to rest.

First we came across small bits of unusual metal, not your normal rusty fence post. Then larger twisted metal, with distinctive aircraft rivets, then bigger still, most of a wing, with letters painted on. It's spread out over a wide area, due to the force it must have hit the hillside.

Only in returning home did we read up on the story. An English Electric Canberra B. 2 from the Royal Air Force was on a night sortie from its RAF base in Cambridgeshire.

Despite good weather conditions the plane crashed, and it was never discovered why.

The two men on board lost their lives.

The last message from the flying officer in board was "Thank You, Goodnight "
