Day 5 in Abu Dhabi

Another bus journey for us today, this time to Dubai. Just under 2 hours from Abu Dhabi but in a very posh coach with leather seats. Not bad for £3 each way!

Our first stop was at this building in the photo - the Burj Khalifa. The world's tallest building at 828m high. We went on the lift to the 124th floor, it takes less than a minute to get there for ground level. The views from the top were stunning! All the skyscrapers we'd seen on the way in suddenly looked like little models in a toy town.

After the Burj we hopped in a taxi and headed to the old gold and spice souks. Lots of lanes all connecting with dozens of small shops. Although people were trying to get you into their shop they were very pleasant. If you said no and kept walking they wouldn't hassle you anymore. Managed to pick up some peppermint tea and vanilla pods for some tasty treats when we get back!

We decided that rather than taking a taxi or the metro to our next stop we'd jump on a local bus and take a short journey through the city. After a 30 minute bus ride we had arrived at Al Karama. This is the area in town where you can find pretty much anything you want. Also the type of place where every other person will ask if you want to buy a 'Genuine Fake Watch or Handbag'. We were in one shop, (just looking, honest!) and member of staff leaned on a shelf with bags on it which turned into a hidden door. The guy asked if we would like to see 'the special collection'. More handbags but of bigger brands like Louis Vuitton. Crazy place to be but an experience none the less!

Headed back to the Burj to see the fountain show in the dark all lit up before heading back to the bus station eventually arriving back in Abu Dhabi past midnight - straight to bed!
