Sgwarnog: In the Field

Write Ye

Another stop on my tour of the stone work of Bradford, this plaque is high up on Number Eight, Piccadilly, on a building that was formerly the "History and Scientific Institute", of which I know nothing.

Feel free to translate the Latin and decode the symbolism for me. I've got as far as Write Ye, Know Ye.

Stop press: My colleague, and prolific Yorkshire photographerTim Green (who has photographed most of Bradford more expertly than I, and well before I got around to it) has translated the bottom half of the inscription: "The written letter endures". Thank you Tim.

This is a Grade II listed building, and you can see a wider shot here.
