In the Toon

Early train to Newcastle this morning. I like train travel (it helps that the East Coast line has some pretty scenery), so sitting on an quiet, early train sipping a coffee and reading the paper felt quite civilised.

Was back in the Toon by lunchtime, so found a nice wee place and grabbed a bite to eat and a coffee before going for a wander up to St James Park. I was chatting to a season ticket holder (of some 15 or more years) earlier and he said through thick and thin the crowd has stuck by the team, mainly because the stadium is right in the centre. If there was any commute involved, he reckoned that crowds would have dwindled during the less than fun times of old.

I liked that there seemed to be a fair amount of people milling around the stadium on a friday afternoon, not anywhere near a match - it had a good atmosphere. There were plenty of folk getting pictures taken in front of the stadium (or Shearer's Sports Bar), and loads of kids just running around the place.

Then it's just a quick hour and a half to get back into town and home, a pretty decent trip when it takes about an hour to get to Glasgow anyway.

Stills this weekend, time to dust off the timer and light sensitive paper and see what i can remember - it's been way too long.
