Maple Flowers

It's a gray and dreary day here in New England, but out in the yard there are some bright spots of color in the maple trees.

On closer inspection, it turns out to be tiny red flowers! They are clustered together in a clump, and each one is like a little trumpet.

I don't see pollen yet, but these look like stamens to me.
