Friday 15 April 2011: How to eat oysters
Eric the oyster shucker, at the delayed Spring equinox party (hosted by Mike and myself tonight), demonstrates to a captive audience how to loosen the mollusc, tincture it with a little flavour, bring it to your lips and, once it slides into your mouth, swallow it after a couple of bites to savour its distinct taste.
He brings a variety of oysters from both East and West coast.
Eric is a critical component of the parties, and i have a suspicion that many of the attendees are there for the oysters rather than our company. The suspicion was confirmed this evening when it seemed Eric had forgetten about this evening's do. When he turned up at about 11 he was welcomed with a chorus of cheers and much genuflection.
