Saturday 16 April 2011: Arachnophobes Beware
I've been seeing these little clusters of baby spiders all over the yard. Each mass is about the diameter of a fifty-cent piece: hundreds of tiny orange creatures webbed together in a tight ball. Take my word for it, each colored dot is a spider with transparent legs. If you breathe on the nest, they all begin to scatter along the lines of the web, but they huddle back together after the danger is past. I have no idea how big they grow, but if I saw that many adult spiders in one place, my fingernails would curl.
