Sunday 17 April 2011: From tiny acorns...
415/365: ... tiny oak leaves grow.
Aren't they just deliciously filled with Spring light? Love, love, love this time of year! There's just a 'rightness' about the world when Spring rolls around and everything comes back to life again. It was one of the things I missed most when we were in Australia - Spring, that is. It sounds mad, but I really did miss the excitement that comes from spotting new bits of growth. Fresh little flowers. Soft pastel gentle colours. In fact, it's almost exactly three years since we came back to the UK and I still remember that feeling of utter relief at seeing the April blossom and knowing we were home. I'm such a wet blanket, I even wept a bit with happiness at it!
Hardcore, I'm not. :o)
Properly good Sunday day today. Went for a walk to the delightfully named 'Thieves Wood' (think it's part of Sherwood Forest)... and although the dog poop obstacle course set by a plentiful supply of pet owners was reminscent of being back in the 1970s, once you'd escaped the vicinity of the car park (for some reason most dog owners seem to park, let their dogs go to the loo on the path... then leave!) and got into the woods, it was really lovely. Felix ran and ran and ran and ran (he's a bit like a Labrador, I think) and Maddy ambled along picking up pebbles. Fizzy did a little bit of that too, although being a boy, he had to get the most stupidly large rock and insist on bringing it with us (and poor old Nick ended up carrying it home!).
After that, I did a bit of gardening (naturally!) - this time, some weeding, watering and planting of runner beans and lettuces. Then, scoffed a quick bit o' lunch and off to a joint birthday party of two of Maddy's friends at a nearby park. Sitting in the sunshine whilst the kids played and the parents chatted... that was bloomin' fab. Lots of laughs, lots of inattentive parenting (whoops!), and an antidote to the commuting bleurgh of the rest of my week. Really like kids' parties which are like this. Tons of kids of all ages, they all get on great and it's totally disorganised and relaxed.
Then, got home, made some pizza dough, planted a few bulbs I found in the garage and then made the rest of the pizza for dinner. Now, Felix is killing a gym ball with the vaccuum cleaner hose thingy.
I can't see this ending well...
PS Maddy was up at half past five this morning!
PPS Nick feigned sleep
PPPS I hate them both just a little bit. ;o)
PPPPS But, for the small price of a cup of tea, I will forgive them. I'm good like that.
