Monday 18 April 2011: About the Size of My Smallest Fingernail

This little hoppy thing was on the sorrel plant, and absolutely would not let me get a face shot. I kept turning his leaf around and around until I annoyed him way too much and he just sprang away. I am amazed that there is room on such a small thing for all that color and pattern! It's a leafhopper, of which there are over 20,000 identified species; when I googled for images, I discovered my sample is drab compared to the vivid reds, purples, blues and oranges that can occur. All leafhoppers, however, have those spiky legs.
