Friday 22 April 2011: Mon Mam Cymru
Landed safely in Heathrow today and drove up to North Wales to see family.
Drove over my favourite bridge again, Telford's Menai Bridge. Completed in 1826 it links the the British mainland to the Isle of Anglesey (Mon in Welsh).
The sign welcoming you as you cross reads "Mon Mam Cymru" (Anglesey mother of Wales) Apparently Anglesey is a Viking derived name.
Unlike the craggy bareness you see in Snowdonia, Anglesey is quite fertile and this refers to the crop growing that fed Wales for many centuries.
