Fife Earth Project

I first heard about this back at the Fife Tourism Conference earlier this year, and decided to stop by and have a closer look on the way back from a meeting in Scone today.

Charles Jencks is the sculptor whose Landform is outside the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, and he's been chosen to make something of the St Ninian's Open Cast Mine as it is decommissioned. You can read more about the project on the Scottish Resources Group's website and there's even a (tiny wee) video to see there.

This photograph is of the first of the landscaped continents taking shape. The thing I liked best when I heard the story first was the idea that the digger drivers were becoming sculptors as they sculpted the land to form the giant masses.

What do you think about the project?
