Wednesday 27 April 2011: See I told you you could do it!!
Grey teal roosting at Travis Wetland - this log was highly contested property - and a great demonstration of pecking order.
As the ducks arrived they would try to fly up onto the log, and then would either by allowed to stay or pushed off by the others.
One duck seemed to be able to chase the others off just by looking at them, I guess it was top of the order.
Others opened their beaks, flapped their wings or moved so there was no where for the flier to land.
A very interesting watch!
This little duck is self introduced from Australia in the 19th century but is not widely established. it is not considered endangered.
